Battery Mate 1603 IG Isolator - 120 Amp, 3 Bank

The Battery Mate electronic isolator distributes charging current to three battery banks of the same nominal voltage. It is intended for compatible alternator or battery-charger installations and keeps the banks from discharging into one another. It must not be used with a combined charger/inverter (Combi).

Low voltage drop supports efficient charging without raising the charging source’s output for conventional diode compensation. Do not increase the source voltage for diode compensation when using Battery Mate.

The Battery Mate uses electronic MOSFET technology rather than a conventional diode splitter to distribute charge with low voltage loss.

Connect the input to the compatible alternator or battery charger and the three positive outputs to three battery banks. Install only in the positive lead between the source and banks. Connect all battery negatives, the source negative and Battery Mate ground to a common ground.

The Battery Mate supports DIN-rail mounting. If the alternator requires both external excitation and external voltage sensing, connect the IG terminal to an ignition-switched source energized in the ignition/run position; otherwise follow the selected-model manual’s wiring.

Current ratings and installation requirements

The selected model supports 120 A continuous charger current and 160 A intermittent alternator current. These ratings are different operating conditions, not interchangeable continuous ratings.

Switch off the charging source and disconnect source/battery electrical connections and loads before installation. Mount close to the source and banks in a well-ventilated location, preferably on a flat metal surface with vertical fins. Do not mount directly above a battery or on the main engine, and never use where gas or dust explosion is possible. Use correctly sized cables and terminals, avoid over-tightening, and comply with local electrical-safety rules.
